Finally! A name that's not derived from japanese girls' manga (comic book). In fact, this current period has very litte to do with manga.

The name, pronounced like Erica or Erika, was taken from a woman who was a year my senior in college. Her presence impressed me so much that although I barely knew her I took her name after she left for San Diego upon graduation in 1991.

The fact that I didn't know how she spelt her name didn't bother me. It gave me latitude in interpreting what the name represents. I now spell it provisionally with a 'k' only for convenience's sake. I would not swear by this spelling and would not use it when and where the name is suppose to represent my self-conception.
