The plans for AoF you ask? Much as AoF likes to scheme, whether or not the AoF can pull off the tricks is another matter. Much depends on the technology remaining cheap and creative egos in the music industry and music press remaining generous and easy to please. And a rich patron with the heart of gold and the pocket book of Bill Gate won't hurt either!
"But how much more is there to say about a band with so few offerings?" AoF already hears some protesting. A lot. While AoF agrees that the Scrits can be and should be a lot more industrious, nonetheless the paucity of information about and appreciation of what little Scritti's got to offer on and off line is just appalling. AoF can still think of the following major missing pieces of the Scritti puzzle which if no one else is willing to take up AoF hopes to one day supply . . .
encyclopedia of references . . .
the traces of mere mortals' desparate attempts to grasp and catalog the 'hermeneutic', the 'three standard stoppages', and other polysyllabic mumble jumble of the mighty ambiguous bright Green one.
lyrics . . .
of all the songs, with hyptertext references of course. How can one bypass such rich land mines as Green's lyrics. They're just hypertexts waiting to happen. Perhaps even a searchable database -- what with Scritsters everywhere (or just speaking for AoF, of course) quoting Scritti left and right out of context, the newbies might get intimidated. Transcribing the holy words with as little distortion as possibe and getting reprint permission are just the beginning of a string of headaches.
paraphernalia & games . . .
surely Scritti deserves at least one lousy screen saver. And how about a mindless game of shooting verbal darts at Green pinned to the cover of NME--which part should be the bull's eye you think? Or for the kiddy at heart, a create and collect your own special edition of Green virtual paper doll outfits complete with fillable thought/speech bubbles.
scritti who's who . . .
of members, passer-bys, influences and references both musical and meta-musical.
sound + video samples . . .
of all the songs, naturally. So people can hear for themselves instead of relying on self-appointed 'music authorities'. And so that people don't forget what territories Scritti covered. Again, broadcast permission is the stumbling block.
By optimistic estimate, with unlikely Scritti management blessings, just these would take, oh, let's say another 3 to 6 years; that should give Green enough time to finish up the rumored album, shouldn't it?
Likely order of appearance: The non-copyrighted stuff first, trickling in monthly-ish effective immediately. Enquiry for copyrighted stuff is in the work and if all goes well, hopefully will start trickling in later this year.
Boy, what a race to the finishing line. Do you think this time Green will beat AoF to it? Yeah, the AoF bow wow wow is really scared too!
Wish list? Toss your 2 cents into the wishing
fountain of petition re. AoF board!
or back to the negation that's gonna last...
...maybe for ever?
