Financial Times

Frequently HTML coders are called in to work with pre-existing sites as they grow and change. Such is the case with this project for the Financial Times in London. Although not a full blown site redesign, this preliminary internal presentation did involve adaptations of pre-existing pages or contents to work with the new navigation and layout used specifically for the presentation.

TRADING FORM

Sometimes existing codes needed to be streamlined to speed up loading. Others needed layout changes both to accommodate and to blend in with the new navigational menu used for the presentation (see JOB FORM page to the right). In a few cases, the layout was redesigned and coded from scratch utilizing existing contents (see PROPERTY page below). I took care of much of these tasks for the two-month project while the producer, the only other person working on the project, concentrated on contents and programming.

As is the case with many webshops and projects, workers with more than one skill set - or at least an understanding of how the whole process works - become invaluable in such rush projects with limited budget. Aside from coding, I was in charge of designing and modifying layouts and images as necessary. Emphasis was placed on making the pages looking neat, clear, consistent, and dignified without going beyond schedule and budget (see JOB FORM, PROPERTY, & TRADING FORM pages to the right). Knowing coding, design, and image processing sped up all three processes as little time was wasted on unacceptable or unrealizable layouts and images.

Images created specifically for this presentation includes... F.T. Menu Bar

  • the menu items and navigational icons on the MENU BAR (to the right)
  • section heading graphics for both the PROPERTY and the TRADING FORM pages (above)
